On Growing Up and Playing in the Mud

Posted by liquidhigh at 10:47 PM on March 6, 2006 in Life, As I Like It.

"I've heard that it's possible to grow up, I've just never met anyone who's actually done it.
- Meredith Grey

For hours, I sat on wet green grass and stared at what seemed to be only time I've seen sunshine all these winter months. I thought about wildflowers and bumblebees and picnics by the lake and walking hand in hand by the water...

Okay. I lie.

Although I did dream about having a nice picnic away from work. A nice ANYTHING away from work.

What I really did was sit in the car, with the engine running, and conjured up the nerve to leave the warm cocoon of the tan interior and comforting hum of Rhona's Civic to actually rejoin civilization. It was Saturday morning and I so wished I was back home, in bed, dreaming about all the stupid stuff kids dream about.

I didn't realize until today how much I missed being a kid. Saturday mornings usually meant brunch at McDonalds with Mom and Mitch and shopping for books afterward. Some Sundays I would shop for something pretty at the Hello Kitty store or something totally cute but utterly useless from Regina's.

Now, my Saturday mornings usually consist of lounging in my jammies and eating cereal in front of the tv. On my good days I even try to do the laundry...

Gah. I have to go back to work.

I Have a Life...Really I Do!

Posted by liquidhigh at 01:02 AM on January 18, 2006 in Life, As I Like It.

....albeit a boring one, so don't feel like you missed out on anything because I did a disappearing act (again!)...

I wish I could just write my stream of consciousness because damn I'm having the most interesting thoughts right now....

Work has been good so far. Deadlines here and there. My raise/return to the old company has been relatively uneventful but the hours are starting to get long and exciting! One thing I DIDN'T miss was the office politics. Has it always been this vicious or have I just been blissfully ignorant of it all?

I've decided to ignore the Rude and the Insecure. The Innocent (aka my team) need to be protected from the Big Bad Institution...I have to secure a way to get one of my girls into my turf so we have MORE good people around us...

Anyway, I'm tired and rambling. Later!

28 ALREADY?!?!?!

Posted by liquidhigh at 05:16 AM on November 17, 2005 in Life, As I Like It.

Where I sit right now, I'm contemplating on decidedly odd things:
(1) My favorite pair of Winnie the Pooh indoor sock things are a year older. I wonder if I should add a candle on my cake for them?
(2) This time last year, I was listening to the insistent whirring of a dingy ceiling fan, whose clapping sounded very much like the beat to a bad Justin Timberlake song.
(3) Why am I at work at 5 AM on my birthday?

So, yes, I am 28 and currently running on caffeine from Tim Horton's next door. My thoughts have become decidedly kooky (it tends to do that, especially while pulling a 24 hour workday)...at least it's a welcome change from earlier murderous thoughts...

Someone just asked me what I wish for this year. That's easy enough to answer...

Sleep. All I need is glorious sleep.

(oh and winning the Lotto too!)

Happy birthday to all who share this date with me, and thanks to all of you who've sent me messages and good vibes.

My Weekend with the Enemy

"She's addicted to nicotine patches" - Spark, Tori Amos

Ciggys= NONE; Food: TONS OF CARBS (i.e. bacon, corned beef, fried rice, chocolate!!) **sigh** I need self discipline...

Addictions are funny things. There are days you think you can quit at the drop of a hat. Some days however are fraught with cravings and urges that you have no choice but to give in. You are, after all, only human. I think my problem was that I gave up too much too soon. In January, I gave up smoking (partly because it was an expensive habit, and partly because I started to smell really bad...LOL). Then I gave up carbs (and sometimes eating entirely) within the same week. Whaddaya know, I went back to my ciggys two weeks later and had a big pasta craving satisfied soon after.

There has to be a better system...

Anyhoo, I started working with a trainer at GoodLife 3 months ago and for a long while, my eating habits were corrected. I was focused on a low calorie, low fat lifestyle, that helped my physical training a lot...but since that program ended, my control over the carbs seemed to disappear.

Any suggestions? At least I'm still keeping with the physical regime: circuit training 3x a week and cardio for the rest of the time.

GET BETTER, ILAI! Uchi's nephew has been in the hospital quite a lot lately...hope you feel better soon, hun! And Uch, keep me posted!

THE TORONTO FILM FEST IS ON! The stars are in Hollywood North this week to promote new films and schmooze with the likes of Ben Mulroney and MuchMusic VJs. The best eye candy I've "seen" so far is Orlando Bloom, doing press for the new Cameron Crowe vehicle, "Elizabethtown." Missed Johnny Depp at the Corpse Bride party but hopefully I see Viggo (aka Aragorn) before he leaves town! I'll post my pics if I get them
